Greg H. Blomgren was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1951 and moved to Hawai‘i with his parents in 1958. He grew up in Kaneohe, O‘ahu and graduated from Iolani School in 1969. In 1962, Greg received his SCUBA certificate and started commercial fishing as a sideline. The next move was to Hilo on Hawai‘i Island in 1972 to open a branch office of Fireplace Hawaii Inc. After installing fireplaces for eight years, he started making koa mantel pieces and other koa products. In 1985, he bought a fishing boat and started deep sea commercial fishing. Greg has been building fireplaces and koa furniture since 1980 and goes fishing when time allows.
